Reverend Sidney Melvin
The Reverend Sidney Melvin is a native son of Charleston, South Carolina, and the youngest of four children born to the late Deacon Wilson Melvin Jr. and Sister Jerry Dean Melvin. He is the devoted father of three and the proud grandfather of five. His life and ministry stand as a beautiful testament to faith, perseverance, and an enduring commitment to servant leadership.
Academic & Spiritual Foundations
Rev. Melvin began his academic journey at Garrett High School (Class of 1988). Guided by a passion for service, he later earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Human Services with a minor in Religion from Southern Wesleyan University in 2017. His expansive pursuit of knowledge also includes studies at the University of South Carolina, Charleston Southern University, and the Morris College Extension.
His spiritual foundation was nurtured at his home church, Charity Baptist Church, under the visionary leadership of the late Rev. Dr. Benjamin J. Whipper, Sr. It was there that he learned the cost of discipleship, the power of sacrifice, and the importance of standing firmly on the Word of God. Rev. Melvin was called to the ministry under the late Rev. Dr. Jay Charles Levy, and he continues to serve under the pastoral covering of Rev. Dr. Nelson B. Rivers III at Charity Baptist Church.

Divine providence led the congregation of New Bethlehem Baptist Church on Wadmalaw Island, South Carolina, to elect Rev. Melvin as their new Pastor, where he has already joyfully put his hands to the plow.

Appointed as Pastor of Long Point Missionary Baptist Church in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, where he faithfully shepherded the flock for nine years.
Ministry Beyond the Walls
For Rev. Melvin, ministry has never been confined to the pulpit. It is a daily mandate to meet people where they are, to offer hope in dark seasons, and to encourage the weary. This same heart for God’s people defines his professional career. He serves with distinction as a Child Protective Services Case Manager for the South Carolina Department of Social Services, dedicating his professional life to the safety, protection, and well-being of vulnerable children and families.
Deeply committed to the community, Rev. Melvin extends his outreach through civic engagement and his proud membership in Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. Through every avenue, he seeks opportunities to mentor, uplift, and empower the next generation.
His Kingdom Philosophy
Through every chapter of his journey, Rev. Melvin has anchored his faith in the truth that the road may not always be easy, but it is always worth continuing. He draws regular inspiration from Edgar Albert Guest’s timeless poem, See It Through, remaining steadfast against obstacles and unshakeable in his divine purpose.
He steps into this new pastoral season with deep humility and fierce determination, firmly believing that his ultimate assignment is not simply to be seen, but to serve; not simply to preach, but to reach; and not simply to lead, but to lift others as he climbs.
